Where To Find Good Freelance Writing Opportunities: Guidelines For Starters

With advances in technology in recent years, it has never been easier to start a career as a freelance writer. However, whilst there are plenty of opportunities out there, there are also plenty of competitors that are looking for work too.

In order to maximise your chances of winning any work, there are various things that you can do to make yourself more attractive to potential clients. Some of the ideas of things you can do have been outlined below, as have some guidelines about where to look for work.

Start your search on freelance websites

By using any major search engine, you can quickly find a number of major freelance websites. These websites cater to people all around the world, and post millions of jobs each year. As a result, if you sign up to several of them, you will immediately have numerous opportunities available.

Of course, you will not be able to do some of the jobs that may be listed, such as translations in languages that you do not know. Equally, there will be plenty of other writing assignments that you may not feel comfortable with. However, there will almost certainly be several opportunities posted every day that you may like the look of and would like to bid on.

Bidding on work that you like the look of

Once you’ve signed up and had a look through the jobs listing and found a few possibilities that you might like to consider applying for, you need to know how to create a job proposal.

Essentially, a job proposal is a piece of text that you will write to any potential clients when applying for a job, and you would ideally like for it to make you stand out above all the other potential writers. Whilst most writers will simply write a list of any jobs that they’ve done before, and perhaps include details of any imported clients that they may have worked for, this isn’t the best way of winning work.

Whilst the approach outlined above may show the client that you have done jobs in the past, it doesn’t necessarily indicate how efficient or effective you were when writing the work. As a result, it is much better to try and identify exactly what the client needs, and explain how you will tackle the work.

In fact, so many potential writers fail to do this, and just write boring job proposals that have very little or anything to do with the actual client. Therefore, if you can make a connection with the client, they will be more likely to award you a job.
